BP agents stop smuggling attempt of 8 immigrants on US 83

U.S. Border Patrol agents said they halted the smuggling attempt of eight immigrants at the checkpoint on U.S. 83.

On Sunday evening, a red tractor arrived at the checkpoint on U.S. 83 located northwest of Laredo. An X-ray scan of the vehicle revealed several individuals hidden inside.

Then, agents said they discovered eight people from the country of Mexico who had entered the country illegally. Border Patrol detained the driver and the individuals pending further investigation. Authorities seized the tractor.

“Despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing summer heat, smugglers continue to endanger the lives of individuals they exploit and the health and safety of our nation. U.S. Border Patrol agents strive to prevent the flow of illegal immigration and slow the spread of COVID-19,” Border Patrol said.
