BP Arrests Convicted Sex Offender Near Douglas

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents in southern Arizona arrested an additional sex offender over the weekend.

Tucson Sector agents arrested 30-year-old Romeo Hernandez-Sanchez after he illegally entered the United States through the desert near Douglas.

Records checks revealed the Mexican national was convicted of sexual offenses against a child in Monmouth County, New Jersey, in 2018. Hernandez-Sanchez was removed from the United States later that year after he completed his prison sentence.

As a previously removed aggravated felon, Hernandez-Sanchez now faces immigration prosecution.

All people apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.
