TRENTON — Fifteen people were arrested and two city bars have been shut down as a result of Friday’s raids of three bars in Trenton’s South Ward by Immigration and Customs enforcement, New Jersey State Police and Trenton Police.

The Capital Pub on 843 Gennesee St., El Rancho on 200 Fulton St. and Chapalla’s Bar on 273 Morris Avenue were hit Friday night. All of them were found to have Alcoholic Beverage Control and other municipal violations. The violations at the Capital Pub and El Rancho were found to be severe enough to be shut down permanently, Lt. Leonard Aviles, the head of the TPD’s Vice Enforcement Unit said. Chapalla’s was spared that fate because while ABC violations occurred there, they were not severe enough to have the business shut down.

Of the arrestees, 14 of them were fugitives that were wanted by immigration officials, which included employees of the bars.

Some of them had been previously deported and entered the country illegally again. The other person was arrested for narcotics offenses. I.C.E. is currently investigating whether women brought to work at the bars were part of human trafficking activity.

The raids were prompted by quality-of-life complaints from residents to the point where they were labeled nuisance bars by police, Aviles said.. The Capital Pub and Chapalla’s were raided by I.C.E. and local law enforcement in April of last year. The Capital Pub was found to have ignored the violations given to the business, which was why it had to be shut down.

“It was an excellent joint operation,” Aviles said. “The neighborhood was happy, some in the community even thanked us during the operation.”

Universal E-Verify would be the most effective tool for putting an end to this nonsense.

    SNIP
    E-Verify is already readily available.

Better yet, obtain the SS# mismatch list of employees, from the SSA administration, and make it available to the public, so that those Americans looking for jobs, know which employers are likely to be employing illegal immigrants. There are 8 million illegals, currently working in, non-agriculture, on-the-books, American jobs, by using false, or stolen, SS numbers. It's time to give those jobs to Americans. The DHS receives this list from the SSA but they are not at all effective at enforcing our federal laws prohibiting the employment of illegals.
