WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) - An illegal immigrant has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for having nearly $250,000 worth of cocaine last year in his apartment in Lisle.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have placed a “no bond” hold on the man, Adolfo Ortiz. Federal agents will take him into custody for possible deportation following “expiration of his (prison) sentence,” according to records on file in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton.

Ortiz, who turned 29 on Thursday, last lived on the 4600 block of Old Oaks Drive, in a first-floor unit of the Lakeside Apartments in Lisle. The complex lies northeast of Ogden Avenue and Fender Road.

He and another man, Rene Dominguez-Cruz, were arrested about 8:54 p.m. July 25, 2011, following a collaborative investigation by Carol Stream police and agents of the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group.

Judge George J. Bakalis on Wednesday sentenced Ortiz on a Class X felony charge of the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, specifically, 400 but less than 900 grams of cocaine, court records showed. A Class X felony carries a mandatory sentence of six to 30 years in prison upon conviction.

Bakalis gave Ortiz 14 months of credit toward his prison term for time he has spent in jail since being arrested, court records indicated. The judge also placed him on three years of mandatory supervised release and assessed fines and legal costs that totaled $1,620, according to records.

Police and DUMEG agents found 800 grams of cocaine during their search of Ortiz’s apartment. The cocaine had an estimated street sale value of $240,000.

They also confiscated $15,000, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and an assortment of narcotics-related equipment and paraphernalia.

Dominguez-Cruz, 28, last lived in Wheaton. He was sentenced in September 2011 to jail after being convicted of a felony charge of the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, specifically, one but less than 15 grams of cocaine.

He was later turned over to immigration authorities.
