Breaking: Trump Would Like to See Compromise Immigration Bill

Trump would like to see compromise immigration bill

Posted on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 by CNN in Election

President Donald Trump is eager to pass an immigration bill, a senior administration official told reporters Tuesday.

The President is thinking about adding the topic to his speech tonight to a joint session of Congress, though either way an immigration bill remains a desire for his first term. The topic of enforcing current immigration laws is already in the speech, the official said.

The President believes that the nation is now in a position where it can pass immigration legislation, the senior administration official said, with the need to have “a softening on both sides. There’s got to be a coming together.”

A path to citizenship for those in the country illegally would not be part of Trump’s vision for this deal, with the possible exception of “Dreamers” — those brought into the US illegally as children. The President envisions a bill where those who haven’t committed any serious crimes could stay in the US legally, holding a job and paying taxes, without having to worry about being deported.

The President does not see the bill as something that would necessarily upset his base, since both sides would need to compromise.

“It has to be a negotiation,” the official said, arguing that the bill theoretically could make people on both the “far right” and “far left” happy.

“It could be good for everyone,” the senior administration official said. “People are exhausted” from debating the topic.

Trump to push Congress toward immigration compromise: Report

    Sarah Westwood

    February 28, 2017

President Trump during his speech to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night is expected to address the need for a bipartisanimmigration reform bill.

Colleague Bret Baier rpts Trump says he'll push an "immigrationbill" with compromise on both sides. He'll mention that in his speech— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) February 28, 2017

The president previewed his immigration-related pitch to a group of network anchors during a private lunch on Tuesday, Fox News reported. Two of the network's anchors, including Bret Baier, attended the lunch.

Trump shift: official says WH open to legal status for undoc immigrants who haven't committed serious crimes, per @wolfblitzer@jaketapper— Manu Raju (@mkraju) February 28, 2017

Trump may even be open to granting legal status to undocumented immigrants with no criminal history, CNN reported after the lunch with network anchors.

The move would mark a departure from Trump's campaign rhetoric, which centered on a tougher approach to immigration than his predeccesor.

Trump came down heavily on the side of strengthening immigrationrestrictions during his campaign, and he courted conservatives who had opposed a previously unsuccessful attempt at immigration compromise waged by lawmakers known as the "Gang of Eight."

The Theme of Trump's speech on Tuesday — "the renewal of the American spirit," according to White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer — suggests the president has prepared an optimistic address.

Oh no! This is bad news. There is no need for new legislation and Trump never promised legislation! He promised to enforce our existing immigration laws.

I think it will upset many people. His comprehensive immigration plan is too similar to others attempted in the past. Americans do not want amnesty.

Joe Wilson will not be present tonight to shout, " You Lie" if the President proposes this.

If true, Instead of ending DACA and giving some restitution to the American people, he will reward law breaking and continue it.

Trump does not see the bill as something that would necessarily upset his base
It's that STUPID SURVEY where they put "immigration reform" on it. SOMEONE has to get word to him that WE DO NOT WANT AND WILL NOT ACCEPT "immigration reform" that does anything for illegal aliens. That is OFF THE TABLE.

When normal Americans think of "immigration reform", we're talking about:

    1. reducing legal immigration if not eliminating most of it
    2. making it virtually impossible to import H1B workers that replace American workers
    3. E-verify for most employers
    4. making H2 low wage employers totally responsible for all costs of these people and their families while in the United States, these are temporary jobs doing seasonal work, employers bear the whole cost of their presence here
    5. funding the wall
    6. expanding ICE and Border Patrol Agents
    7. entry exit tracking on all visas (but not biometrics)
    8. authorizing states and local law enforcement to enforce US immigration law
    9. increasing immigration judges so deportations of illegal aliens and immigration violators can be deported within 48 hours

NOT LEGALIZATION OF ILLEGAL ALIENS. NOPE. NEVER. NOT ON ANY BASIS.

You think your base won't blow up in your face, oh yes, sir, we will.

Alexander Acosta, La Raza, Maldef, Lulac, Mick Mulvaney, General Kelly, Reince Priebus, Paul Ryan, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Dick Durbin, Luis Gutierrez, Obama, Mexico, those who want reconquista, so many others seeking to continue the transformation will rejoice. The American citizens will not.

Why would "dreamers get citizenship?" Legalization and citizenship.

Amnesty and open borders groups will want more and more, we know. The door is open, how wide will it get.

He let a rabid liberal democrat announce it, too. His love fest with Terry McAuliffe was too much.

I purposely did not select immigration reform on the survey, because I didn't want immigration reform in the sense of amnesty. I agree 100% with Judy.
