Brewer opposes Mexico having say in AZ immigration case
Brewer opposes Mexico having say in AZ immigration case
The Associated Press Arizona Daily Star
October 5, 2010 5:23 pm
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is opposing a court ruling that lets Mexico file a friend-of-the-court brief in her appeal of a decision that put parts the state's new immigration law on hold.
Mexico and 10 other Latin American countries were granted permission by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to present their viewpoints in Brewer's appeal.
Brewer's lawyers tell the appeals court that the opinions of foreign countries have no bearing on whether the law is constitutional.
The governor says she was offended that foreign governments were meddling in a domestic legal dispute.
Mexico was joined in its brief by Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Peru.

Brewer blasts 11 nations' court briefs on SB 1070
by Alia Beard Rau - Oct. 6, 2010 12:00 AM
The Arizona Republic
Gov. Jan Brewer filed a motion in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit on Tuesday opposing efforts by nearly a dozen countries to weigh in on Arizona's new immigration law.
Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Chile have filed briefs to the appeals court in support of the U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Senate Bill 1070.
Mexico in its brief stated that the country has an interest in ensuring that its diplomatic relations with the U.S. are not frustrated by the actions of individual states. Filings by the other countries stated that they "are gravely concerned that SB 1070 will lead to racial profiling and disparate treatment of its nationals."
The court on Monday agreed to let the nations submit their briefs. Brewer's motion Tuesday asks permission to respond to their argument.
"I find it incredibly offensive that these foreign governments are using our court system to meddle in a domestic legal dispute and to oppose the rule of law," Brewer said in a news statement.
A number of other cities, counties, states and politicians also have filed amicus curiae or "friend of the court" briefs in the case.
Michigan, Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia are supporting SB 1070.
Baltimore, Berkeley, Calif., Minneapolis, Monterey County, Calif., New Haven, Conn., New York City, Portland, Ore., Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle and several others are supporting the Department of Justice's opposition to the law.

This is all about drugs
Of course these foreign countries have an interest in our affairs. The majority of illegals come from these countries. Follow the money. Illegals from these countries cross the US/Mexico border to make a better life for themselves, right? Not quite; they come here to obtain a job (that an American won't do of course) then send all their money back to their home country. In addition, the drug cartels (i.e. The Mexican Government) are now in the business of human smuggling. Why is that? Because the people they smuggle in (the illegals) carry in their backpacks full of drugs to sell to Americans.
