I don't think he's ready to bow on anything. I think he is ready to implement the Bush/Fox plan.

    THE LAW

A competing plan by Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., would create two-year visas and require that guest workers and illegal immigrants leave the U.S. before they can apply for the chance to work legally in the country.

This is the current immigration law and anyone coming here on a visit LEGALLY must leave and apply for re-entry for work from outside the Country.

    This is the current LAW!

How do I know?, I waited for my white Canadian wifey-poo for 10 weeks, before this Country would allow her mastered degreed, 10 year experienced body, with a waiting job, and H1-b visa, into our country. We paid the 2000 dollar lawyer bill. She as it happened, was denied entry once, as her job description did not EXACTLY match the criterion on the INSs' list.
Upon her second attempt a woman customs agent allowed her entry, but said she probably should not. After having our son, an AMERICAN born boy, she was laid off. She was immediately threatened with deportation and had 72 hours to leave the country. We avoided that, LEGALLY!

When my wife lost her insurance coverage and my job did not provide what she considered adequate, we moved to Canada.

We are separated, and my wife says there is,

NO POSSIBLE WAY SHE LIVE IN A COUNTRY SO SCREWED UP THAT THE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW SCREWED UP IT IS!

I hope for the best for our Country, as for others, they made other plans.

"Where is an American to go, most of them are bred for show" cheers glenn

Struggling to pacify his party's warring wings, President Bush (search) is moving toward allowing illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. before February 2004 to qualify for guest-worker visas (search). People smuggled in after then would be deported.
Am I missing something here? The illegals are undocumented. How exactly do you establish they came here prior to 2004?

Precisely correct, JohnB2012. That will have loop holes and open borders all over it. But they think the American people are so stupid, that we fail to recognize this.

Unfortunately, the way this is being done, it isn't going to matter what anyone outside of DC thinks.

To Bush, this is a done deal. We're either going to get the McCain-Kennedy "amnesty for all and bring everyone you know along too" bill or this one.

No one in DC even pretends to listen to the public on this. There's too much corporate campaign money at stake.
It's like hell vomited and the Bush administration appeared.

I disagree with that. I think they WILL listen to the public if only ENOUGh people would tell them that if they go for this crapola there is NO WAY they can get re-elected.

As far as McCain's observance of the illegals on construction sites...let me inform you that many of those illegals are working for 3 to 5 dollars per hour on jobs that should be drawing 15 to 20 dollars per hour. So that doesn't mean that they're NEEDED here, it merely means that some AMERICAN worker who should be on that job is NOT on that job....and the construction company is just making loads of profit. By far the most laughable thing I've ever heard. So is Bush just going to take the illegals word for it? If he's lucky he might get about 5 illegal alien dummies out of 20 million that are stupid enough to say that they illegally crossed in Feb 2004, but for the rest, come on get real. Anyone who believes this is sound policy doesn't have the brains that God gave a billy goat.

Bush and his advisers are caught between their supporters in the business sector, who believe the economy needs those workers, and conservatives whose priority is to clamp down on illegal immigration (search). The White House hopes to have a detailed proposal to Congress in late September or early October.
They aren't caught up in anything. If Bush cared one iota about what we think then he would have stopped this nonsense years ago. He just listens to what Karl Rove and his corporate cronies want and to hell with the rest of us peasants.

If Bush was torn between us and what business wants then we'd have a chance to sway him, but we don't so this statement is laughable.

McCain, who ran against Bush for the 2000 GOP nomination and may seek the White House in 2008, is sponsoring a bill with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., that would create 400,000 three-year visas for guest workers. The legislation has the flexibility to add more in the future and would let undocumented workers stay in the U.S. while they apply.
This bill is a complete joke. I think these two liberal love birds were drunk the night they crafted this piece of crap bill.

A competing plan by Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., would create two-year visas and require that guest workers and illegal immigrants leave the U.S. before they can apply for the chance to work legally in the country.
Kyl and Cornyn's bill is much better then McQueens and McAmnesties bill, but it still has flaws that I can't accept. I'd want to have our borders secured and see that we are being serious about enforcing our laws before I'd even consider a bill like this.

"Turn yourself in so we can send you back to Mexico," said McCain, throwing his head back in laughter during an interview at his Arizona office last week. "It's not going to happen."
If idiots like you would get our current immigration laws enforced then we wouldn't be stuck in this immigration quagmire. How about this for reform, untie the hands of the BP, ICE, and local/state/federal law enforcement and let them do their jobs.

According to administration and congressional officials who took part in a series of White House meetings this summer, Bush does not favor requiring illegal immigrants to be sent home to apply for the visas.
Bush doesn't favor illegal aliens to go home period because he hates the very same country he's in charge of. The idiot thinks he's king of the planet. He's a joke of a president, a traitor and he should be immediately impeached.

Tell that to the mother who has to drop her kid off at the bus stop in the morning in Phoenix only to find 3 or 4 illegal immigrants waiting there with their kids to ensure that they don't get deported.

It'll happen. Just let the ICE actually do their jobs and it'll happen.
