Former owners of the Great Wall restaurant in Springfield have been ordered by a federal judge to pay $10,000 fine for hiring and harboring illegal aliens from Mexico and China, said John F. Wood, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri today.

Miao De Zhang, 52, and Ai Hui Chen, 47, both of Springfield, were each sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith on Thursday to two years of probation, including one year of home detention, and fined $5,000 apiece. Zhang and Chen formerly operated the Great Wall restaurant in Springfield.

Not much of a message if you ask me. These folks should have done hard time behind bars. Not only did they knowingly hire illegal immigrants, they also defrauded the federal government buy paying them under table.
