Businessman charged with hiring, harboring illegal immigrants

CINCINNATI - A federal grand jury has charged a restaurant owner with employing and harboring illegal immigrants at his business.
Jing Fei Jiang, 37, of Fairfield, also was charged with transporting illegal immigrants and claiming to be a U.S. citizen when he applied for a small business loan, even though he is a Chinese citizen. The indictment alleges Jing has been living illegally in the United States since 1990.
The grand jury in Cincinnati returned the 12-count indictment Wednesday. It accuses Jing of encouraging and inducing three illegal immigrants to live and remain in the United States for commercial advantage or private financial gain, employing them at his Bee's Buffet restaurant in Fairfield.
Officers with the Cincinnati office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, assisted by police in Fairfield, a Cincinnati suburb, searched Jing's home and business June 5 and arrested 10 people suspected of violating immigration laws, U.S. Attorney Greg Lockhart said.
There was no answer Thursday at Jing's restaurant, and there was no residential telephone listing for him.
Jing could get up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted on the most serious charges.
