C.B.P. Port Huron Seizes $1.3 Million in Ecstasy

(Tuesday, September 28, 2010)

Port Huron, Mich. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Blue Water Bridge seized more than 88,646 tablets of Ecstasy, or MDMA, valued at $1.3 million, on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The seizure resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old Canadian from Brampton, Ontario. CBP officers encountered the individual as he applied for admission into the U.S., traveling in a 2003 Freightliner truck carrying a shipment of PVC (plastic) lattice destined to Florida.

CBP officers referred the shipment for an x-ray scan that resulted in an anomaly detected within the roof liner of the cab and in the trailer. A closer inspection of the cab roof led CBP officers to the discovery of several bags of Ecstasy commingled with the shipment. The total weight of the Ecstasy was approximately 65 pounds.

CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for further investigation and possible prosecution. CBP officers seized the Ecstasy and commercial truck.
