Alert! SB 60, driver's licenses for illegal aliens, passes Senate, now in Assembly!

The California Senate passed SB 60 by a vote of 24-15. Senator Gil Cedillo's notorious effort to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens now moves to the Assembly where the Transportation Committee will hold hearings.

CAPS was instrumental in enacting the current law that prohibits the DMV from issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens. SB 60 would, instead, require the state to issue licenses to illegal aliens that would be valid for driving but not for federal identification purposes. Federal law does not require issuance of these second-tier licenses.

Remind your Assembly Member that there were, and still are, good reasons for not giving licenses to those who have violated our immigration laws.

The safety argument does not actually hold water. Illegal aliens who can not drive do not stop driving when licenses become available. Those of them who can drive are not more likely to cause an accident than an American citizen even without one.

It doesn't matter if it passes because Arnold will veto it just like he has every year since he took office.
He promised before he was ellected that illegal aiens would never get licenses in CA. as long as he was Governor.
