Costa Mesa's Mayor Allan Mansoor wants the city to get tougher on illegal immigration.

The Orange County branch of the Anti-Defamation League is urging the mayor of Costa Mesa to reconsider his call for stepped up enforcement of federal immigration laws in the city.

ADL regional director Kevin O'Grady said Thursday that the league is concerned that Mayor Allan Mansoor's proposals will make "an already tense environment more tense as it targets undocumented workers."

Mansoor on Wednesday said he plans to introduce a resolution declaring Costa Mesa what he called a "Rule of Law" city, meaning it would enforce immigration laws.

O'Grady says the league is encouraging its supporters to attend upcoming Costa Mesa City Council meetings to oppose Mansoor's proposals which include verifying that all workers doing business with the city are here legally.
