Agents: 12 Illegal Immigrants Found In Driverless Van

JACUMBA, Calif. -- An out-of-control van hauling a suspected load of illegal immigrants was stopped by Border Patrol agents in East County over the weekend.

According to officials, Border Patrol agents prevented an accident involving a Chevrolet van on Interstate 8 near Jacumba around 10 p.m.

Agents said the driver jumped from the car while it was in motion. Agents were tipped off to the suspected smuggler and when they spotted the vehicle they tried to pull the van over.

Agents said the van began driving erratically and then made a sudden U-turn onto an on-ramp, traveling in the wrong direction. As the agent drove toward the van, the driver abruptly made another U-turn and drove toward Interstate 8.

That's when agents said the driver lept from the van. The agent was able to use his car to stop the van before it merged into oncoming traffic, officials said.

Inside the van, the border patrol said they discovered 12 illegal immigrants inside, none of whom were injured. The driver of the van was not caught.

Another quick thinking heroic border agent who put his life in danger to save others.

How do these van jumpers always escape..........

Maybe because of how the BP are restricted or cautious as to what they can do, especially since what happened to Ramos, Compean and others, don't you think?

They don't always escape, this is their usual method to jump and run, back when I worked EMS in this area I had 22 in a van that the driver dumped but on another call the driver ran his van through some brush as he jumped out, he failed to see the granite boulder that he soon became quite famliar with.

Great point jean! If a border agent even looks at an illegal invader wrong they risk going to jail. Tells you who's side of this issue our government is on doesn't it.
