LA HABRA - Two groups representing opposing sides of the illegal immigration issue clashed early today in front of the Home Depot at Harbor Boulevard and Lambert Road.
About a dozen anti-immigrant protestors held signs reading "Stop Immigration" and "Save America" as a five-member group in favor of immigration reform video-taped them.
One of the organizers, George Gush, 58, of Whittier, said he chose the Home Depot site because the company has a recent history of fostering day workers, whom he says are illegals.
"I am not a racist; I am just trying to support the laws in place," he said, just a few feet away from about a group of about a dozen men looking for work.
A manager of Home Depot, who refused to give his name, said there are no amenities for day laborers' onsite like some other Home Depots.
Gush, who was joined in his protest by like-minded individuals, as well as local members of the anti-immigration Minute Men organization, said illegal workers are driving down American wages.
