Boat Allegedly Used to Ferry Undocumented Immigrants Washes Ashore

A boat that may have been used to ferry undocumented immigrants into the United States from Mexico washed ashore on a North County beach today, authorities reported.

The unoccupied 20-foot pleasure craft was spotted near the western terminus of 22nd Street in Del Mar about 4 a.m., according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Federal officials believe the vessel possibly had been used to transport illegal immigrants into the country, ICE spokeswoman Lauren Mack said.

Over the last six months, 10 to 15 "beat-up" boats apparently used and then abandoned by human smugglers have been found along the ocean coastline of San Diego County, from Imperial Beach to Del Mar, Mack said.

Wouldn't think that boats would be easier to spot? Why are they empty and not full when they find them? Gosh is there any safety in our nation. I feel like we are a bunch of sitting ducks.

Small boats are very hard to see out on the water if the waves are running above 6 foot swells. And since you run out pass the 3 mile limit and the Coast Guard leaves you alone for it looks like you are out fishing and you go north for an hour or so and then you head to shore with your load of Illegal Aliens and you abandon the cheap used small boat. And if the boat does not have enough METAL on it the RADAR on the CG boats will not pick it up. Which is why we had to POST extra WATCH WITH GUNS ON ALL SIDES OF THE SHIP WHEN WE WHEN THROUGH certain parts of the world where the Pirates. With ORDERS TO SHOOT AT ALL SMALL BOATS. Been there done that. And I was lookout and the DD off the coast of Vietnam in 1968 and I could repair the Radar and could spot the traffic on the water before CIC could post it.
