Border patrol agents arrest drug smuggler

Staff Report

Border patrol agents from the Calexico station arrested a man attempting to smuggle drugs into the United States Monday morning.

Around 9 a.m. agents responded to an area where remote video surveillance system operators observed large bags they suspected contained drugs being loaded into a mini-van just north of the All American canal.

Agents later approached the vehicle, arrested the driver and discovered 45 bundles, which later tested positive as Marijuana.

The drugs weighed 514 pounds and have an estimated value of more than $400,000, according to a news release.

The marijuana, the driver and the mini-van were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
