PALM SPRINGS —U.S. Border Patrol authorities arrested 14 people last week near the Home Depot in Palm Springs for reportedly being in the United States without legal documentation, authorities confirmed.
On Sept. 27, a local law-enforcement agency was investigating reports of “vagrancy, loitering and other charges against person with no discernible U.S. identification cards,” Border Patrol spokesman Keith Smith said.

Smith said federal authorities used the department’s “biometric-identification technology” to determine that 14 of the people were in the country without the proper documentation.
Though Smith didn’t discuss the specific technology used in Palm Springs, the FBI uses biometrics technology such as iris scans, palm readings and facial recognition to track people.
Palm Springs police, the agency that patrols that area, did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.
