CALEXICO, Calif.- - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender attempting to cross the International Border fence near Calexico on October 7.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., a man was spotted attempting to cross the fence three miles to the west of Calexico. Agents determined he was in the United States illegally, arrested him, then transported him to the El Centro station for processing.

Agents identified the man as Jose Luis Romero-Lara, a 56-year-old Mexican national who was previously convicted on a misdemeanor charge of annoying/molesting children in Santa Ana. Romero-Lara was sentenced to 60 days in prison and 24-months probation for the conviction. He was later deported.

He will be prosecuted for re-entry after removal as a convicted sex offender.
