    El Universal (Mexico City) 6/2/08

Less than a week after a number of federal police were killed by criminals in Sinaloa, Pres. Calderon asserted that the strategy against narcotraffic and organized crime is the correct one, that it is under way, is the adequate one (and that) it is integral and long term. The government is not going to pull back but would instead fine-tune (its operations) and it is naive to think that the State would renounce its obligation to see that the law is carried out.
Over four thousand persons have died in this war since Pres. Calderon took office in Dec. 2006; in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, there have been 25 homicides in just three days.. Five men were executed Saturday night in Sinaloa, bringing that state's tally to 116 for the month of May.

    El Informador (Guadalajara, Jalisco) 6/2/08

An hours long shootout and pursuit between police and armed subjects in Zapopan, Jalisco, resulted in the arrest of 13 men who are now under heavy custody by Mex. army personnel. Three grenades were detonated by the thugs during the confrontation and two police officers were wounded; one thug preferred to commit suicide rather than be taken into custody.
Sixteen assault rifles, 38 grenades, 20 bullet proof vests, 20 bandoleers, four thousand three hundred and fifty rounds of ammo (various cals.), 6 pistols, 143 clips (mostly for assault rifles), 5 vehicles and other gear were seized. (Zapopan is just outside the city of Guadalajara)

Tamaulipas en linea (Matamoros, Tamps.) , El Diario de Coahuila (Saltillo, Coah.) 6/2/08

In the city of Reynosa, Mex. federal police raided a house at #215 Reynosa St., Colonia Ampliacion Petrolera, and arrested eight men and a 19 year old female. They also seized 8 hand and fragmentation grenades, "more than" eight thousand rounds of ammunition, 27 kilos 123 gms. of cocaine, seven shoulder weapons with scopes, 25 clips, 40 communication sets, clothing with police agency insignia, 8 vehicles and a money counter.

El Diario (Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua) 6/2/08

June started in Juarez with a triple homicide when thugs in a vehicle fired AK47 and pistols at three men on the sidewalk, killing all three.

El Sol de Mexico (Mexico City) (part of large nationwide chain) 6/2/08

The wave of insecurity in the state of Zacatecas and in all of Mexico will cause a considerable reduction in the number of visits by prior residents of the area who now live in the United States according to a Zacatecas congressman who toured U.S. cities. He said that in the U.S. there is a general perception of what is occurring in Mexico and that people there are keeping current with events so that they fear for their personal safety and might not visit Zacatecas or other areas of the country even during the forthcoming vacation periods.

Wonder what country the TV sets (and drugs) were headed to.

If the ephedrine pills were made in China........well.........

Globalization and free trade seems to have the merchandise secondary and as camouflage for the real product--illegal drugs.
