Group expresses support for 287 (g) program



Representatives from a group opposed to illegal immigration spoke during the public comments section of the Fontana City Council meeting last week.

Raymond Herrera of We the People, California Crusaders praised the Department of Homeland Security 287 (g) program, which he said allows trained law officers to investigate an illegal alien who has committed a felony on U.S. soil. Officers can identify illegal aliens in the prison system, who are then deported upon release.

Herrera and Robin Hvidston spoke out against a recent article in the Fontana Herald News in which protesters in San Bernardino opposed the 287 (g) program at a rally.

Hvidston said We the People, California Crusaders planned to speak at the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors meeting about how pleased the group was with the way the County Sheriff’s Office administers the 287 (g) program.

“According to the statistics, it costs about $12 million per year to jail illegal immigrants in San Bernardino County. San Bernardino County’s enrollment in the 287 (g) program assists in the deportation of illegal alien criminals, thereby lowering the number of criminals in San Bernardino County, contributing to the public safety in our county,â€
