MAY 31: A standoff in Orcutt leads to three arrests
Monday, June 1, 2009
Reported by: Jimena Martinez
Authorities charge a man in connection to a three and a half hour standoff in Orcutt.
It happened just after 9:00 a.m. Sunday at a home on the 3900 block of Orcutt Road. Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene after receiving reports of shots fired.
Negotiators were able to get two men out of the home before authorities went inside and arrested 20-year-old Alfredo Lopez of Mexico.
Lopez is charged with firing a weapon in a grossly negligent manner, and possession of a false government document.
Detectives say Lopez was drinking all night and fired the gun in celebration. He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on a no bail immigration hold.
The other two men were released.

CA Mexican man arrested after Orcutt stand-off
Mexican man arrested after Orcutt stand-off
Staff report
A 20-year-old Mexican national is being held in county jail without bail today after being arrested following a standoff that ended peacefully outside an Orcutt home Sunday, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
Alfredo Escobar Lopez was arrested on suspicion of firing a weapon in a grossly negligent manner and possession of a false government document, said Drew Sugars, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Detectives believe Lopez had been drinking alcohol all night, and had fired a gun in celebration, Sugars said.
Lopez is being held on a no-bail immigration hold.
Two other men who were held for questioning in the incident have been released.
The stand-off, which lasted more than three hours, began shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday in the 3900 block of Orcutt Road, which parallels Highway 135 on the east side. A neighbor reported shots had been fired from a handgun in a rear yard, Sugars said.
Deputies established a perimeter around the home and evacuated neighbors and some residents of the home, Sugars said.
The department’s Special Enforcement Team was called in to make contact with the three men, including Lopez, believed to still be inside the home.
Highway 135 and Orcutt Road from Foster Road to Skyway Drive were closed to traffic during the incident.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
