Paso Robles City Council gets involved in illegal immigration issue

The Paso Robles City Council chose to petition the federal government for immigration reform Tuesday night.

Toward the end of its regular meeting, the council voted unanimously to send a letter to California senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, as well as local Congressman Kevin McCarthy, on the issue of illegal immigration.

In his presentation on the issue, city manager Jim App said that the letter was motivated by several citizens who have come forward expressing concerns about immigration issues.

The council’s goals for 2008-2011 include preparation of a report concerning immigration policy, and the report App prepared for the meeting fulfilled that.

“At the time of the goal setting and preceding it, we had a number of people peppering us with rather significant concerns about illegal immigration, and their views on the ills associated with it,â€
