Grissom students say loss of two friends in wreck 'doesn't seem real'

The man charged in the fatal wreck involving two young Huntsvillians has outstanding warrants for driving under the influence, police said.

Felix Dominguez Ortega, 25, has also been arrested under the name Adan Herrera with a birth date of Aug. 8, 1985. Police said Ortega also used the name Reynaldo Martinez and Juan Sanchez.

Ortega is charged with two counts of murder. Leigh Anna Jimmerson, 16, and Tad Mattle, 19, were killed when Ortega's pickup truck hit their car Friday night at the intersection of Whitesburg Drive and Airport Road, police said. Jimmerson was a sophomore at Grissom High School and Mattle graduated from the school last year.

Ortega has also been charged with possession of a forged instrument, driving without a license and a seat belt violation, according to police. Ortega is in the metro jail with his bond on the murder charges set at $2 million.

Sgt. Mark Roberts said police are unsure whether Ortega is an illegal immigrant. The suspect was arrested after his Monday release from Huntsville Hospital. He was in critical condition Saturday.

Meanwhile, Grissom students struggled Monday to accept their friends' deaths.

Danielle Crawford always talked to Jimmerson at school during first period. "I don't know what I'm going to do now," she said. "It just doesn't seem real."

Ryan Kolodziejcza said many at Grissom feel the same way about Mattle. "Most people I know are still getting around the fact that he's not going to be around anymore."

Mattle was a drummer in Grissom's marching band and Jimmerson was in the color guard. She was outgoing, boisterous and dressed with a flair, friends said, while Mattle, who was more than a foot taller than Jimmerson, was quiet and loved cars.

He was driving the old Toyota Supra he spent years restoring. The two were dating.

Color guard girls wore ribbons honoring their friends and encouraged students to wear T-shirts today saying F.A.D.D. for Friends Against Drunk Driving. A candlelight vigil was held for the two Monday night.

Several students embraced and wept for Jimmerson and Mattle.

"It was so devastating and unreal," student Christian Clark said of the wreck.

Now Grissom students must try to recover from the tragedy.

"They were both so young," said student Marc Luper. "It still is not fair to us that we are left behind, in that we have to learn to cope with it."

Crawford, a cousin to Jimmerson, said students must learn to forgive the alleged killer. "Until we forgive him," she said, "we'll never get over this."

    Illegals are all criminals .

You know, it's no wonder that the American people don't like illegals. They only bring us hurt and pain. They take our jobs, steal our tax dollars, use our system, ruin our neighborhoods and cause car acccidents, and/or rape and/or kill so many innocent Americans.
