CALEXICO- A pursuit of a man accused of drug trafficking ended when the man crashed into a Border Patrol vehicle in Calexico on Thursday night, and more than 50 pounds of marijuana were seized, according to authorities.

Around 9 p.m., Calexico Station Border Patrol agents saw a man illegally enter the United States carrying a duffle bag east of Calexico, said Supervisory Agent Fabian Morales.

The man threw the bag into a waiting vehicle on Anza Road and fled back into Mexico. Border Patrol agents tried to stop the vehicle but the driver refused and instead drove north on Barbara Worth Road to Heber Road before heading back to the west side of Calexico.

Agents used a controlled tire deflation device on the vehicle, but the driver continued to flee the agents until he had a head-on collision with a Border Patrol unit on Grant Street and Emilia Drive. Both vehicles had significant damage, but there were no significant injuries.

Calexico police and Border Patrol responded to the incident, and 53 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $23,850 were found in the duffle bag.

Jose Manuel Gomez Meza, 28, was turned over to Calexico police for continued investigation and booked into Imperial County jail early this morning.
