U.S. Border Patrol agent injured after traffic stop altercation in Whitewater
The occupants of the vehicle attacked the agent, who was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was hurt today in an altercation with three people following a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Whitewater.
The assault was reported just before 3 p.m. on Interstate 10 at the Highway 111 exit, according to Agent Aaron Van Zee.
The occupants of the vehicle attacked the agent, who was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Van Zee said.
Two people were arrested, but a third suspect remained at large, he said.

Update: FBI Heading Investigation in Border Patrol Agent Assault

The search continues Tuesday for the third person who is suspected of assaulting an Indio Based U.S. Border Patrol Agent, according to Border Patrol Agent Van Zee.
Van Zee says the FBI is now heading the investigation because it was an assault on a Federal Agent.
The officer was assaulted when he tried to pull over a car on the I-10 and Highway 111 exit Monday afternoon.
Three people were in the vehicle at the time. The officer was assaulted by at least one person in the car.
Two people were arrested on Monday.
