Man arrested in '02 death of toddler in Tijuana deported

Man arrested in '02 death of girlfriend's toddler in Tijuana

    October 30, 2008

TIJUANA: More than six years after Omar Alfonso RodrNguez Félix allegedly killed his girlfriend's 18-month-old son, then forced her to flee with him to San Diego, he is in custody, thanks to the coordinated efforts of police agencies on both sides of the border.

The Baja California Attorney General's Office said yesterday in a statement that the boy, Axel Ulises Santoyo Briones, was living in Tijuana with his mother and RodrNguez. On May 7, 2002, RodrNguez allegedly threw Axel on the floor to stop his crying.
When the mother saw her son wasn't breathing, she asked to take him to a hospital or a doctor, but RodrNguez refused, investigators said. RodrNguez then drove her to an isolated spot off the free road to Tecate and forced her to help him bury the child, investigators said.

RodrNguez forced the woman to flee with him to San Diego. This year, she escaped, returning to Tijuana to accuse him in her son's death.

San Diego police helped locate RodrNguez, now 33, according to the Baja California Attorney General's Office. RodrNguez then was deported and taken into custody by Baja California law enforcement agents.

Tijuana police officer, three men, found slain
TIJUANA: A municipal police officer yesterday became the latest victim of the violence that has gripped the region in recent weeks as drug gangs battle for control of smuggling routes.

The officer was identified as Mauricio Antonio Hernández Flores, 36, who had worked for the department for 10 years. Hernández was a bodyguard for a commander in Tijuana's police department, and he was off duty when he was killed. Police said his body was found at 1:25 a.m. yesterday, slumped in the driver's seat of a Ford Bronco in the Los Alamos neighborhood east of Tijuana's main bus terminal.

Three other victims were reported late Tuesday to the Baja California Attorney General's Office. The victims, all men, were found in a Ford Econoline, under a blanket, with signs of having been strangled, according to a statement. One victim had been handcuffed. The vehicle was discovered at 11:18 p.m. on an access ramp to a highway in the southern part of the city. –S.D.

So it took this woman 5 years to "escape?" I see....
