    CAFTA Serves US Interests

Managua, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) The Central America Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (CAFTA) was created and negotiated to meet the requirements of Washington, at the back of the true needs of the region, according to Nicaraguan Deputy Alba Palacios.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, Alba Palacios accused regional servile governments of "yielding to US demands" to accept a deal of submission and disloyalty to their nations.

"CAFTA is an excellent project to make the great empire richer," ignoring the needs of the majority that has become poor because of neoliberal policies, said Palacios, member of the Sandinista National Liberation Front.

According to a report by the Economic Commission for Latin America, abject poverty, unemployment, undernourishment and lack of health and education resources had increased in Central American countries such as Nicaragua, where more than three million people live under the poverty line.

These people will be the first victims of the unequal accord that threatens to take farmers and small and median firms to bankruptcy.

The National Assembly did not ratify the CAFTA as demanded by the US and Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolaños.

Alba Palacios said the struggle against the project would continue to search for alternatives and laws that protect Nicaraguans from the invasion of multinationals.

The US Congress ratified the CAFTA on July 28. It has been approved in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, while parliamentarians of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic are yet to approve it.

No, CAFTA (and NAFTA) serves just a few CEO's to line their pockets and consolidate their monopoly monetary control and then link that back to governmental control.

Meanwhile thousands of Peoples lives are ruined and impoverished.

A lot of countries think that Americans support these Trade Agreement Treaties when if fact they only help the big corporations get rich while harming Americans. They will learn soon how devastating this will be not only to the US but to any country who signs onto it.

And all the poor people of Central America will come to the US illegally in search of a better life and bring our standards of living down with them.

NAFTA was supposed to help the Mexican economy and give the Mexican people a better way of life. It didn't work out that way.

If the FTAA passes we are all in a world of hurt. That's the big one.

We must stop the evildoers in Washington.
