Calexico CBP Officers Catch Three Mexican Nationals Attempting Illegal Entry on Rail Car

CALEXICO, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on Tuesday apprehended three Mexican nationals that attempted to evade detection in a freight train arriving from Mexico.









The incident occurred at the downtown Calexico port of entry shortly before 5:30 a.m. on July 7, when CBP officers scanned the train using the x-ray imaging system and noticed an anomaly on two rail cars. CBP officers searched the rail cars and discovered a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman on the first car, and a 46-year-old man on the second car.

"There are serious risks when people utilize confined spaces on trains as they attempt an illegal entry,” said Officer in Charge Sergio Beltran. "The weather here in the Imperial Valley can be dangerous since temperatures rise above 100 degrees.”

All three people were hiding inside a small space on the freight car’s exterior. CBP officers safely removed the subjects and took them into custody for further processing. CBP officers determined all three were Mexican nationals; they were found inadmissible and subsequently returned to Mexico.

CBP officers at the border crossings in Southern California routinely stop illegal activity, while processing millions of legitimate travelers into the United States.

Before returning them, give them a bucket of paint to paint over that graffiti for their punishment.
