Immigrants clash with locals on Long Island
Hispanics have been harassed, beaten, evicted in recent incidents
    By FRANK ELTMAN
    Associated Press

FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. - This middle-class Long Island community an hour from New York City and 2,000 miles from the Mexican border has become an unlikely flashpoint in the national debate over illegal immigration, with Hispanics beaten, harassed and evicted in recent weeks.

For more than a decade, immigrants from Mexico or Central America have been drawn to Long Island by the prospect of jobs. Many stand on street corners in Farmingville, waiting for contractors, landscapers and others to offer them a day's work at about $10 an hour. Then at night they go back to their illegally crowded single-family homes.

The immigrants, many of whom are thought to have entered the country illegally, have been a source of tension among longtime residents since at least the late 1990s, but things have gotten worse this summer â€â€

"Long Island must realize that the day laborers are here to stay"

    THAT IS AN OPINION STATEMENT.

No this is the reality... its frustrations like this that gave groups like the KKK their power. This is just the beginning.
Americans are getting fed up... our goverment doesn't care, they see their jobs going away. They are getting scared and they are getting mad.
You want reality? Try this, armed citizens rounding up anyone who looks Mexican and beating the shit out of them. Don't think it can happen? Just watch! All you need is a few hot heads to get things rolling and before you know it its 1950 again and the sheets are coming off the beds!

We CAN NOT let this happen! Somehow, some way cooler heads have got to get though to our elected officals that they have gotto take immingration seriously. They have gotto put a stop to this multicultural liberal cancer that is infecting and destroying the American way of life.
The goverment just passed a 200 plus billion dollar transportation bill that was overloaded with PORK, aka pet projects. Why can't they find the 6 to 10 billion dollars it would take to secure the boarders. Secure boarders and effective immigration reforms are the ONLY THING that will DEFUSE the tension and frustrations that are breeding these attacks on legal and illegal immigrants.

    Come and see...

I live next door to Farmingville, NY and anyone who expresses a favorable attitude toward illegal immigrants and believes the lie that they're here doing work that "we" don't want to do should come and spend a few days in Farmingville and Patchogue, NY and see for themselves what it looks like. Illegals have destroyed entire neighborhoods in these towns. Most of them are men who are here without families. They drink heavily, they relieve themselves in public, and since there is a huge surplus of these folks, they lie around on every available patch of grass all day long. More and more are associated with the Mexican drug cartel.

Let me correct an oft-repeated inaccuracy: They do not work for $10 an hour. They work for $20-$30 under the table for scumbag contractors. I abhor making judgments about people based on race and I understand that the Indians of Latin America are poor and oppressed. However, their presence here is disruptive and damaging on many levels and that's why I support the forcible repatriation of these people. When we have an administration that regard people who break our laws with hostility, not hospitality, we will begin to solve the problem.

Suffolk Co Executive Steve Levy is a Democrat who opposes illegal immigration and tried in vain to get Bush to pay Suffolk Co for the costs incurred by his Administration's lax border control. Now he has the same problem with Obama.

I take this as a threat, given the fact it was made by a mexican gov official, or someone authorized to speak on their behalf.
