    Calif lawyer accused of accepting $53,500 bribe

    LOS ANGELES — An attorney has been arrested and charged after authorities say he accepted $53,500 in cash so he could instruct his client to lie to a grand jury investigating possible immigration fraud.

    FBI agents arrested Alfred Nash Villalobos of South Lake Tahoe late Tuesday at a law office in Century City. He was charged with obstruction of a grand jury proceeding and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
    It wasn't immediately known if Villalobos had retained an attorney.

    Prosecutors say Villalobos was paid the bribe from another lawyer who represented a person being investigated for possibly providing false employment records to help immigrants obtain work visas.

    Authorities say Villalobos, who represented one of the immigrants, planned to have his client lie to the grand jury.
