Group against immigration amnesty wants seat at Utah immigration summit
July 15, 5:40 PMSalt Lake City Political Buzz ExaminerAlison Peek

Salt Lake City based Americans Against Immigration Amnesty (AAIA) is asking Utah Governor Gary Herbert in an open letter released earlier this week for a seat at Utah's immigration summit scheduled for later this month.

Herbert announced several weeks ago that he wants a diverse group of Utahns to sit down and discuss the state's immigration problems. He says he wants a solution by Utahns for Utahns. Some planning to participate in the summit are legislators writing law similar to Arizona, leaders who don't agree with the approach as it forces racial profiling, members of the Latino community, and local law enforcement.

AAIA believes creating racial and cultural barriers with regard to immigration is not helpful on any level, and wants the government to unite us as Americans. Citing the words of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907; they want those who choose to live in America to be of one mind - Americans. There must be one language - English. And that we have one loyalty, "and that is a loyalty to the American people."

The group says immigration is a legal question, and one of integrity. They support a summit that will help Utah better enforce state and federal laws, but not one that supports amnesty and continued violation of immigration law. AAIA says giving amnesty to illegal immigrants will "bring our country to its knees."

They say they cannot comprehend how any elected official would not enforce current state or federal statutes. AAIA maintains the United States must be "restored to the rule of law and not just by following the laws we don't have objections to, but all laws."

    Good thing.

Nothing like having a meeting with pro-illegal immigration groups only!

Advocates for (Mexican) illegals seem to be taking officials for a ride with their claims of racism, lack of compassion, racial profiling, appealing to "family state" values, Christianity and whatever else they can in order to justify illegal presence in the state and the country.

Sneaky tactics. They know what buttons to push in order to get things their way and to protect their illegal immigrant communities.
