Illegal immigrant into Robeson County indicted for re-entering U.S. after having been deported

An illegal immigrant into Robeson County has been indicted for illegal re-entry after deportation from the United States, according to a release from the office of the U.S. District Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina in Raleigh.

Camerino Sanchez-Venegas, 27, of Mexico, was arrested in Robeson County in July 2013 for driving while impaired, according to court documents. Immigration officials determined Sanchez was in the country illegally. In December 2013, Sanchez was deported at Laredo, Texas, but re-entered the country sometime after that.

On Dec. 22, 2017, Sanchez was arrested by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear in court. His fingerprints were submitted to federal databases and matched those on file, documents said.

Sanchez was released from the Robeson County Detention Center on Jan. 18 after inclement weather prevented Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were unable to transfer him into their custody, documents said.

Sanchez was taken into federal custody earlier this month.
