CANADA:Border officials bust illegals in southeast Quebec

Border officials bust illegals in southeast Quebec

    CTV.ca News Staff

Officials have recently arrested more than 40 asylum seekers from South America who tried to illegally cross the Quebec-Vermont border into Canada.

"This is a major spike in the number of people crossing illegally. It's a significant number," Dominique McNeely, a spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency, told The Globe and Mail in a story published Wednesday.

Border officers and the RCMP made the arrests around Stanstead, a small border city 165 kilometres southeast of Montreal.

McNeely said the individuals tried to enter Canada using unguarded roads in the Stanstead area, which is located in Quebec's Eastern Townships.

Of the 43 arrested, four have been charged. Two are charged with smuggling people, and two with entering Canada illegally, he said.

A bail hearing has been held for one of the four accused.

Claire Desgens, a Sherbrooke, Que. legal-aid lawyer, told the Globe that most are from Colombia while some are from Venezuela.

One of the four charged is a U.S. citizen. Another is a Colombian with permanent residency status in the United States.

Desgens claimed that many portrayed by immigration officials as smugglers are actually relatives who were simply accompanying the asylum seekers.

Most of the 43 arrested have already been released and have applied for refugee status. They are now in the Montreal area awaiting hearings before the Immigration Refugee Board, she said.

Woe to Canada the Mexicans are claiming the rest of North America. Just like here in the USA once they find out there's freebies and nice neighborhoods to spoil they are there.. The Canadians will say "let them have the USA it's America's own fault for being too conservative and not securing their borders. Kind of like a-lot of people said about LA California "who cares it's California's fault they are liberal, let them have California etc". I wonder if they'll (Mexicans) make up some fake fairy-tell nation that makes them the "real owners of Canada" too?

    Welcome to our nightmare, Canada!

This could be a good thing. If enough illegals start pouring into Canada, perhaps Canada will put pressure on our government to secure that open door we call the Southern border.
