Candidate Tancredo Coming to the Border May 4

    2007-04-18 22:25:17 -

HEREFORD, Ariz., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom Tancredo, the Colorado Congressman who has fought for tougher enforcement of laws against illegal immigration, will attend a fund-raising event on an Arizona border ranch in the middle of a major smuggling route. The Republican candidate for President, who surprised many by raising more than one million dollars in the first quarter of this year, will bring his campaign to the Mexican border Friday, May 4, for a cookout and demonstration on how the border can be controlled.

When he speaks to his supporters, Tancredo will be looking out over miles of wide-open border with nothing to stop illegal aliens and terrorists but a flimsy barbed-wire fence. There will be no evidence of the Secure Fence Act of 2006, legislation to strengthen the border signed by President Bush last year.

"To be called a sovereign nation, a nation has to be able to control its own borders. It is controlling your own destiny in a way, and we don't control our own borders," Tancredo said.

Tancredo's message that uncontrolled massive illegal immigration could threaten our way of life is beginning to resonate in the presidential campaign. According to a recent poll sponsored by Judicial Watch, in partnership with Zogby International, 66% of likely voters believe that more emphasis should be placed on law enforcement when addressing the issue of illegal immigration, including 51.6% of Hispanics and 56.8% of self-described political "liberals."

Tancredo emphasizes he warmly welcomes law-abiding immigrants.

The fund-raising event will be held at:

    11615 S. Apache Sky Road
    Hereford, Arizona, 85615

It will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 4. (Children under 12 free)

Reservations may be made by calling: 520-803-7704

Guests will be served BBQ ribs, hot dogs and hamburgers, BBQ beans, western-style, rolls and a salad with ranch dressing. Water and soft drinks are free. Beer and wine will be available for $2.

"Some say this may be a historic gathering," said Glenn Spencer, event host and long-time activist against illegal immigration. Spencer said his 104-acre ranch has hook-ups for motor homes, etc., and there is room for camping if people have tents. Porta potties will be supplied. "Of course there are plenty of excellent hotels and motels in Sierra Vista and it's only twenty minutes away," he added. Spencer asked that he be notified if a hook-up is needed.
