Chris Christie Wants To Track Immigrants Like FedEx Packages

"We need to have a system that tracks you from the moment you come in."

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Saturday revealed a plan to curb unauthorized immigration: track anyone who enters the country from the time they receive their visa, like a FedEx package.

At a New Hampshire town hall, the presidential hopeful lamented that 40 percent of the undocumented immigrants in the United States entered on legal visas that they had overstayed.

"So here's what I'm gonna do if I'm president. I'm gonna ask Fred Smith, the founder of FedEx, come work for the governor for three months. Just come for three months to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and show these people," Christie said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

"We need to have a system that tracks you from the moment you come in," he continued. "And then when your time is up...then we go get you. Tap you on the shoulder and say excuse me, thanks for coming, time to go."

Christie's campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

FedEx uses barcode technology and unique tracking numbers to keep track of shipments, with each package scanned an average of 13 times between dropoff and delivery, said FedEx spokeswoman Jennifer Caccavo. She declined to comment on Christie's plan.

Earlier this month, Christie called for a re-examination of birthright citizenship for the children of undocumented immigrants born on United States soil.

I will bet anything that there are some Jewish people still alive that can show you tattoos of ID numbers stamped on the inside of their arms. That is the trouble with people too young in politics, they are not even familiar with recent history. Christie went to what college? I think the idea reeks of Nazism. Is'nt the American way ankle bracelets?

When you put a package with a barcode that is scanned at every transfer point into the FedEx system as an inanimate object the package can't get up and go to the bus station, or some friend's or relative's car, and go to the other side of the country all by it's self like people can.

You know, this is why it's so important that we elect competent people to government positions, because you never know when they might use their current position to claim they're qualified for the step-up to the White House.

NO! NO! NO! We will not track legal immigrants. We will not track illegal aliens. We will not track citizens. This is the United States of America. Illegal aliens who have over-stayed their visas need to be sent a letter advising them their visas have expired, are not being renewed, there is no amnesty, there is no work permit, there is no green card, or different type of visa coming their way. They are to make departure arrangements within 14 days, call ICE and report on their method of and date of departure, if the mode of transportation does not confirm their departure, then there will be a manhunt through state and local law enforcement to pick them up and remove them through expedited deportation proceedings. Not only that but if they were here on a work or student visa, then the schools and employers will be notified of their fugitive status and failure to assist in finding them will result in criminal penalties for aiding and abetting federal fugitives.

Most of these visa overstays, while certainly criminals and no better or worse than the ones who sneaked across the border, don't take it seriously, because the US government has never taken it seriously. When we start enforcing our laws, then most visa overstays will depart. They think it doesn't matter because no official has told them it does.

Christie says criticism of FedEx-like immigrant tracking is 'ridiculous'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie pushed back on Sunday against "ridiculous" criticism of his new proposal to track foreign visitors the way FedEx tracks packages, saying government needs private sector expertise to tackle illegal immigration.

"I don’t mean people are packages, so let’s not be ridiculous,” the Republican presidential candidate told an

interviewer on Fox News Sunday who pointed out that foreigners don't have labels on their wrists.

"This is once again a situation where the private sector laps us in the government with the use of technology," Christie said. "We should bring in the folks from FedEx to use the technology to be able to do it. There’s nothing wrong with that."

Christie said on Saturday that if elected president, he would use a FedEx-like system to make sure visitors who enter the United States legally on visas depart the country when their time is up. He maintains that 40 percent of illegal immigrants with visas overstay their visits.

The governor, who is running well behind among the 17 contenders in the Republican White House race, sought to draw a distinction between his proposal and what he called Republican frontrunner Donald Trump's "simplistic" idea on how to deal with an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

Trump, who has a 21-point lead over his closest Republican rival, Mike Huckabee, according to a Reuters/Ipsos survey, has said he would deport undocumented immigrants and build a wall between the United States and Mexico.

"I've put forward a much more detailed proposal than that," said Christie, adding that the presidential race was "not only about personality. It's also about ideas. And it's about who can get it done."

Christie has said he would ask FedEx Chief Executive Officer Fred Smith to devise the tracking system. A FedEx spokeswoman declined to comment on his remarks.

Trump's railing about illegal immigrants has prompted other Republicans to talk tougher on immigration but has also rattled Republican Party leaders who are desperate to attract support from Latino voters who have Democrat Hillary Clinton's pledge to seek citizenship for illegal immigrants if elected in 2016.

On NBC's "Meet the Press" program, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said he would be open to building a wall along the U.S. border with Canada -- not just the southern border with Mexico.

"Some people have asked us about that in New Hampshire. They raised some very legitimate concerns, including some law enforcement folks that brought that up to me at one of our town hall meetings about a week and a half ago. So that is a legitimate issue for us to look at," he said.

Why? We don't need a wall on that border.

Chris Christie Campaign Defends Immigration Visa Reform

    by Charlie Spiering
    1 Sep 2015

When New Jersey Governor Chris Christie proposed a plan to use modern private sector tracking technology to improve the visa process in America, liberal critics predictably freaked out.

The campaign insists that Christie’s comments were more about the principal of using modern technology to solve government problems.

“Clearly the Governor is talking about leveraging private sector innovation and technology to address government inefficiency and to help solve some of our country’s biggest problems, including knowing when individuals overstay their visas,” said Christie’s Communications Director Samantha Smith to Breitbart News. “It is also important to note that there is broad bipartisan support in Congress for a high-tech system to modernize the visas process in the United States.”

During a town hall event in New Hampshire, Christie said: “At any moment, FedEx can tell you where that package is. It’s on the truck. It’s at the station. It’s on the airplane. Yet we let people come to this country with visas, and the minute they come in, we lose track of them.”

The idea sent journalists in a tizzy, as some even compared it to the U.S. government internment of Japanese Americans in World War II.

Christie has used this example before in town hall meetings in New Hampshire, receiving a positive response from conservatives who’re concerned about the U.S. government losing track of visa holders who end up staying illegally in the United States.

Smith is also the daughter of FedEx president and CEO Fred Smith.

The idea is not foreign to the presidential debate, as former House Speaker Newt Gingrich frequently brought it up in the 2012 Republican primary.

“There are an estimated 11 million people here illegally and the federal government can’t find them while they’re sitting still,” he joked in 2011. “One of my proposals is that we send everybody a package.”

At the time, Gingrich defended it as a joke pointing out that he was merely using the rhetoric to show how hapless government had become on an important issue.

He used the example again during a 2012 CPAC speech, as the delighted crowd of conservatives applauded.

“Let me say for my friends in the news media that that was hyperbole, and we don’t need a fact check,” Gingrich added at the time.

Well, that's very interesting. FedEx chairman's daughter is working on Christie's campaign. Well, what an absolutely stupid idea from Samantha Smith, who because of her father's position in FedEx certainly should have known better. It's still up to the candidates to know which ideas and from whom are smart ones or dumb ones.
