Release Date: January 22, 2020
BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $205,852, hidden within 2011 Chevrolet Cruze.
“Our officers did an outstanding job in seizing these hard narcotics,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.
“The security of our borders is something that our officers are devoted to and take very seriously.”
The seizure took place on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge when a 29-year-old male Mexican citizen applied for entry into the United States driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The driver was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. In secondary, with the aid of a non-intrusive imaging system and a canine unit, CBP officers discovered 26 packages which contained a total of 13.40 pounds of alleged cocaine, 1.72 pounds of alleged heroin and 3.17 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden within the vehicle.
The estimated street value of the cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine from the seizure is $103,360, $39,000 and $63,492 respectively. CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
