CARROLLTON, Ga. -- A Carrollton High School student who went to Italy as part of a spring break soccer trip is not being allowed back into the U.S.

Channel 2 Action News has learned a glitch in sophomore Kevin Sosa's paperwork is to blame, though officials and a family attorney would not elaborate.

"As a team, you want to have all your players back," said Sosa's high school soccer coach Scott New.

"Kevin is just a great kid, a great player," he added.

The trip was organized through the West Georgia Football Club, which is not affiliated with the school.

Two other Carrollton High students who went on the overseas trip returned Sunday, but Sosa was not allowed to come back into the U.S.

"The family wants to have their son back ... the team, the school and the community in general," said Carrollton High Principal Dr. Mark Albertus.

He said he's been keeping a close eye on the situation since he learned of it on Sunday.

"It's frustrating because it's hard to help from such a distance," Albertus said.

Sosa's family hired attorney Amy Velasquez of the Tisinger Vance law firm in Carrollton.

Velasquez said neither she nor the family are ready to answer questions now, but provided a brief statement.

It read: "We are working to resolve the situation and are optimistic that Kevin will be home soon."
