CBP Officers Take Custody of Fugitive Wanted By U.S. Marshals at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge
(Friday, May 21, 2010)
Brownsville, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge took custody of an extradited Mexican citizen. Mexican law enforcement authorities arrived at the bridge where they surrendered the fugitive to U.S. authorities.
On Friday, May 21, Mexican law enforcement authorities arrived at Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge and surrendered Angelio Acevedo Ortiz to CBP officers. The 33-year-old Acevedo Ortiz, a citizen of Mexico and resident of West Palm Beach, Fla., had been a fugitive living in Mexico for the past three years.
CBP officers and the U.S. Marshals Service participated in this extradition. Checks of a CBP database by CBP officers identified Acevedo Ortiz as the subject of a U.S. Marshals Service arrest warrant from state of Florida on an outstanding narcotics case filed by the Drug Enforcement Administration in West Palm Beach, Fla.
After his arrest, Acevedo Ortiz was transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service who transported Acevedo Ortiz to the Cameron County Jail to await extradition to West Palm Beach, Fla.
“This is a great example of the excellent teamwork taking place on the border by our CBP officers working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexico law enforcement authorities to bring wanted fugitives back to face charges in the United States,â€NO AMNESTY
