Customs and Border Protection agents seized 929 pounds of methamphetamine worth more than $18 million at a port of entry last week.
On Friday, May 17, a tractor-trailer pulling a commercial shipment of carrots was referred for further inspection by CBP officers assigned to the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. A secondary examination, which included non-intrusive imaging equipment and a canine team, resulted in the discovery of 384 packages of methamphetamine within the trailer.
“This is truly a huge, notable interception of hard narcotics,” said Sylvia Briones, Port Director.
Agents seized the narcotics, the tractor-trailer and the case remains under investigation by agents with Homeland Security Investigations.
