Eight indicted in connection with San Fernando Massacre

Eight members of the Zetas criminal organization face charges in connection with the massacre of 72 migrants in August in the city of San Fernando, Mexican authorities announced Monday.

The Mexican military had arrested the eight men during three gun battles last month. Officials believe the suspects are responsible for the Aug. 23 deaths in a rural area known as the Huizachal, near San Fernando, according to a press release from Mexico’s attorney general’s office (PGR). San Fernando is located 90 miles south of Brownsville.

The eight men face charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, aggravated kidnapping of 72 migrants, possession of restricted firearms, possession of restricted ammunition and explosives, corruption of minors, and the Mexican equivalent of capital murder on 72 counts, the release states.
