Say It's Not So, Senator McCain

    Say It's Not So, Senator

When he was an NFL quarterback, Heath Shuler tossed some wayward passes, so perhaps a recent allegation about Sen. John McCain is off the mark.

However, the accusation is troubling and is something the Arizona senator should immediately deal with.

Now a Democratic congressman, Rep. Shuler is sponsoring a tough anti-illegal immigration bill titled the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act (SAVE). The Democratic leadership of the House is not backing the bill, so Rep. Shuler and other sponsors hoped to get a "discharge petition" to free the bill from being stuck in a House committee.

In a speech to a North Carolina Rotary Club this week, Rep. Shuler said the bill's backers were making progress until Sen. McCain blocked them. The petition had 181 of the 217 needed signatures to force a vote on the bill.

McCain then called Republicans in Congress and asked them not to sign the petition, Shuler said. He said after McCain's intervention, Republicans in the House were less willing to sign onto the bill

Sen. McCain's staff has denied the story, saying the senator has not taken a position on the bill, but did not try to block anyone from signing the legislation.

This is troubling because one of the major disputes conservatives have had with the Arizona senator is his immigration policy views, which, in the past, have been close to amnesty. However, Sen. McCain promised conservatives he understood their concerns about securing the nation's borders.

There is one quick way for the senator to deal with this issue, and to assure conservatives that he hasn't gone back on his word.

Rep. Shuler's SAVE bill is good legislation. Sen. McCain should announce he is in favor of the bill and urge his Republican colleagues in the House to sign the discharge petition.

    And the sooner, the better.

there are only two plausible explanations.

    1) he doesn't want to alienate the Hispanic vote and is palying games right now which is dangerous of course. Balancing act?
    2) he is a liar and has not heard us last year.

The "Hispanic vote" when it comes to illegals is a mirage, it is made up by LaRaza, the fact is half of Hispanic voters support enforcement like the Save Act. So that leaves option #2.

I spoke with Schuler's office this morning and Duncan Hunter's office. Both offices could not or would not confirm that McCain is doing this. They referred me to McCain's office. Maybe they want us to put some heat under him.

Ok so if Mccain get's close to 50% of the Hispanic vote he will also get a proportion of the black vote because he is de facto protecting them, not Obama since this guy chants "si se puede", and Mccain would get at least 50% of the white, asian etc. So the Save Act is a winner John Mccain. Stop prevaricating and do what is right!
