The head of the Heritage Foundation's political arm said Monday that the comprehensive immigration bill passed in the Senate last year is the result of "corporate cronyism" and blamed another group that often aligns with Republicans, the Chamber of Commerce.

Heritage Action for American CEO Michael Needham said the bill was "written behind closed doors by the AFL-CIO and the Chamber of Commerce."

Needham was speaking at Heritage Action's first Conservative Policy Summit.

The Chamber of Commerce has been supportive of the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill, which included a new path to citizenship for illegal immigrants currently in the United States.

While it most often supports Republicans, the Chamber has recently found itself more closely allied with the GOP establishment, while Heritage has become more closely aligned with the tea party.
