Thread: Chuck Schumer: Pass Amnesty Now, Delay Execution Until 2017

On Sunday, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called on Congress to pass amnesty legislation this year and delay the implementation of the law until 2017.

His solution is remarkably similar to the various delays that are occurring under Obamacare, the "comprehensive" legislation to which immigration reform has been unfavorably compared.

In an appearance on NBC's Meet The Press with host David Gregory, Schumer lamented that last week was a "tough week for immigration" as House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) conceded that enacting reform would be more difficult than he had originally thought. He then said those opposed to amnesty "don't trust the president to enforce the law."

Schumer said there was a "simple solution" to the latter problem.

"Let's enact the law this year, but simply not let it start until 2017 after President Obama's term is over," Schumer said.

As Breitbart News detailed, Americans may not trust Obama to enforce the immigration laws and the various metrics that would be used to measure border security after Obama's executive actions on immigration and Obamacare and the disastrous failure of the Healthcare.gov website.

Schumer, who co-wrote the Senate's immigration bill that the Congressional Budget Office determined would lower the wages of American workers, may want amnesty legislation urgently passed this year because this Congress may be the last chance for it. He agreed with Rep. Luis Gutierrez's (D-IL) previous remarks that this year would be the last opportunity for amnesty legislation.

I have a better idea. Let's implement Universal E-Verify now, to remove the jobs lure. Then by 2017, we'll be able to see Americans working again, and we can implement other changes at a pace which is to the advantage of our own people.
