A Border Patrol agent rescued two people who attempted to swim across the All-American Canal on Tuesday, Border Patrol said.

At around 7:35 p.m., Border Patrol surveillance videos showed a man and a woman entering the canal, which is approximately 18 miles east of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry, near the Drop 3 hydroelectric plant, according to a news release. The pair were attempting to enter the United States illegally.

Agents were dispatched to the scene, where they observed the man and woman struggling to swim across and avoid getting sucked into the hydroelectric plant, agents said.

One of the agents went into the water and rescued the couple. The agent, a certified emergency medical technician, examined the pair and determined that they needed no further medical treatment, according to the news release.
