FRIDAY 30 JULY 2010

SAN SALVADOR - El Salvador immigration authorities expect an increasing number of repatriations will follow Thursday's enforcement of SB 1070 stringent Arizona Immigration Law.

General Immigration Director Ruben Alvarado said this government office has increased its staff to process the wave of nationals expected to reach with its enforcement.

However, the NY Times says District Court Judge Susan Bolton blocked the most polemic items: random police checkup of immigration status and forcing the immigrants to carry their papers at all times.

SB 1070 will seriously affect 11 million illegal immigrants in the US: 62 percent reached through Mexico; 530,000 through El Salvador; 480,000 through Guatemala; and 320,000 through Honduras.

Official statistics from El Salvador rate in 11,000 the repatriations from the US this year, including 2,000 from Arizona.
