Latinos focus of speaker at KSU
David Chiles will present “How to Integrate Latino Communities into the Dominant Culture” April 6 at 7 in Founders Hall auditorium at Tuscarawas Campus of Kent State University at New Philadelphia. The presentation, part of the Artist/Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.

Chiles is the coordinator of Service Learning at Cabrini College, a small Catholic liberal arts college in suburban Philadelphia. He supervises the Cabrini Partnership Project at Norristown, an office he opened in the heart of an impoverished neighboring community. The project has opened a dialogue to coordinate a relationship between the college and Norristown, focusing on shared resources, community development and social justice.

Chiles spent three years with Annunciation House, a volunteer organization serving undocumented immigrants and refugees at the border of the United States and Mexico. He served as the coordinator of an emergency shelter for the undocumented in El Paso, Texas; lived in Colonia Anapra in Mexico running education programs for visiting university groups; and worked as an immigration caseworker for Diocesan Migrant and Refugee Services. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Longwood College at Virginia and a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. He spent a year teaching writing and literature in Xi’an, China.

Tickets are required and will be available beginning Thursday at the main office in Founders Hall. Office hours are Thursday and Friday from 8 to 5 and April 3-6 from 8 to 8. Kent-Tuscarawas is located at 330 University Dr. NE.
