    Claire McCaskill responds

the original letter was about the murder of the border patrol agent.
this is the reply i got

Thank you for contacting me regarding our nation’s immigration policy. I appreciate hearing from you, and I welcome the chance to respond.

With over 12 million illegal immigrants already residing within the United
States, and an additional 500,000 crossing our borders each year, it’s clear that our current immigration system is broken and that the status quo is unacceptable. However, if this Administration would make a real effort to secure our borders and enforce current law against employers who hire illegal immigrants, we could significantly reduce the flow of illegal immigrants into this country and effectively address the immigrants living illegally within our borders.

We are a nation founded by immigrants, but we are also a nation founded upon the rule of law, and it is imperative that we respect both of these traditions. I support legal immigration. That’s why I won’t support measures that reward illegal immigrants for their unlawful behavior. I oppose granting illegal immigrants amnesty or allowing illegal immigrants to receive federal assistance, and I do not believe we should be giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

The promise of employment and government benefits serves as a magnet that attracts illegal workers across our border. It stands to reason that if U.S. employers were unwilling to hire illegal immigrants, then immigrants would be less likely to risk illegally crossing our borders. I believe that any effort at immigration reform should include stronger employer sanctions, and that such sanctions should be aggressively enforced.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future regarding other matters of interest or concern to you.

    All best,
    Senator Claire McCaskill

While the Dems, as a rule, are reluctant to embrace anything that might thwart amnesty, they have generally been better about punishing employers of illegals. I personally believe this is one angle that should be worked early and often and intensively.

Anytime the Dems do something positive on illegal immigration its positive. We just gotta keep the pressure up.

BTW I haven't heard anything new about BlueDog Democrat Rep. Shuler immigration bill. Any new updates? NumbersUSA keeps updating the signers(up to 140 in the house now),but I really haven't heard anything new about it. Kinda of disappointing.

Our nation was founded by colonists, not immigrants, and there was very little immigration between 1776 and 1840. Most of the population increase was due to the natural population increase of the colonists.
[b] If we do not insist on Voter ID, how can we stop illegals from voting?

As I recall, McCaskill even though she is a Dem has mostly voted on our side, same as Baucus & Tester of MT, Dorgan of ND, Rockefeller & Byrd of WVA, all Dems.
    <div>Thank you Governor Brewer!</div>
