Coast Guard repatriates 7 Cuban migrants

MIAMI -- The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island repatriated seven Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Tuesday.

A good samaritan located a 15-foot raft about 23 miles south of Key West, Fla., Saturday and contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West. Pea Island crewmembers responded and interdicted the migrants without incident. After medical screening aboard Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket, the migrants were transferred back to the Pea Island.

Once aboard Coast Guard cutters, all migrants are provided with food, water, shelter and basic medical attention.

The Pea Island is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Key West.

The cutter Nantucket is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in St. Petersburg, Fla.
