    A man identified as the brother of the mayor of Columbus is in federal custody, denied bail at a detention hearing Wednesday, after his arrest last Saturday at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint between Hatch and Las Cruces.

    Gilbert S. Espinoza allegedly was found to be hauling 113 pounds of marijuana, according to a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Las Cruces. The USBP transferred custody to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

    Luna County Sheriff Raymond Cobos confirmed Wednesday morning Gilbert S. Espinoza is the brother of Columbus Mayor Eddie Espinoza.

    As time passes all of the criminals will be caught, especially those aiding and abetting, supporting drivers licenses for undocumented aliens.

    Support is only given out when something is to be gained in return.
