Westmoreland speaking to local Tea Party on iIllegal aliens, amnesty

U.S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia's Third District, R-Grantville, will be speaking at a local Tea Party meeting Tuesday focusing on the issues of illegal aliens and amnesty.

The June 1 meeting co-sponsored by Fayette-Coweta 9.12 Patriots, Fayette County Tea Party and the Coweta Tea Party Patriots is 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitewater Creek CC Amenities Center, 165 Birkdale Dr., Fayetteville.

Headlining the meeting along with Westmoreland will be D.A. King, who organizers of the meeting said is a nationally-recognized authority on illegal aliens.

The estimated number of illegal aliens in the U.S. ranges from 12 to 25 million, said Tea Party representatives. Nobody knows the true number, it could be higher, they said. Cities, counties and states with high illegal alien populations are going bankrupt, the Tea Party groups argue. Programs for their citizens are being reduced because of the soaring costs for illegal alien services.

Georgia's annual increase in the number of illegal aliens is almost double Arizona's and is about equal to California's, according to a release about the meeting from the Tea Party groups. Georgia has almost the same number of illegal aliens as the Mexican border state of Arizona, and the percentage change from 2000 to 2006 was 123 percent -- double that of any other state, they said.

The federal government is doing very little to protect state sovereignty and security and its failure to enforce laws is driving states to enact their own rules, say Tea Party members.

Amnesty was tried in 1986 and all it did was to encourage more illegal aliens, they argue.

The meeting is open to the public and there is no charge.
